Pauliina Mäkelä’s and Kate Stone’s first joint exhibition In Between Shadows blurs the line between the real and the imaginary. The artworks are built on a threshold of knowing and not knowing, where the visible and invisible worlds intermingle to form a space open to thought, reflection and experience. Ambivalent reality and narrative tension create the undercurrent that unites Mäkelä’s and Stone’s works.
The works in the exhibition consist of moving images made using analog methods, such as motorized overhead projector projections and stop-motion animation. Also included are pencil drawings and prints on canvas. The exhibition has been produced in collaboration with the philosophers of the HARMAA working group. The opening of the exhibition will be accompanied by the launch of the publication “Hidden Gardens”, edited jointly by the group, which will be distributed free of charge during the exhibition.
